Half A Year
Monday, June 3, 2002 Edition
Yep, I'm feeling REALLY old today. I am over a HALF a year old. Time really does fly.
This weekend I got to go and see a brand new baby at St. Vincent's (that's where I was born too.... boy, it brings back memories). Mom's friend Kelly had a new son named Eli. He was a cutie who was awake the whole time we were there. I just can't believe I used to be that small. Where has all the time gone?
It's been a little HOT around here lately... and I am not talking about Mommy's temper. Our air-conditioning broke down on Wednesday. Totally KA-PUT. Yuck. So... Daddy had to make one of the largest purchases of his life on Saturday morn. It gets installed tomorrow!
Mommy was busy making purchases of her own. She has caught the garage sale bug. It certainly doesn't hurt that we have had a BUNCH of them really close by. She and Aunt Jody are "shopping wonders". Luckily, I am the one who benefits most. I now have a wagon, a table & chairs set, a car & more clothes, books, and toys than you could imagine! What fun.
We beat the heat Saturday afternoon by going to see a movie. Think I'm too young?? Well, this happens to be my SECOND movie venture. We saw Star Wars: Episode II. It was pretty exciting to see all those space ships whizzing by the screen. Mommy put her hands over my eyes for all the love scenes, though.
Sunday was my 6 month old birthday. To celebrate, we helped Aunt Jody & Uncle Fred paint the backside of their house. I was a BIG help... moral support of course. No painting for me yet. Aunt Jody has a swing in her backyard that I just LOVE. It is so fun; I just laugh & laugh.
TA DA! Today I rolled over for the first time (officially!). Of course, since I was practicing such an amazing feat, I waited until everyone was out of the room. That way, if I looked silly, no one would know. I found my chance when Mommy slipped into the laundry room to get the clothes out of the dryer. She had left me on my back in the TV room for a bit while she did that. When she came back... PRESTO... I was on my tummy! I am quite proud of myself.
I go to the doctor's for my 6 month old checkup on Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes.
Talk to you again soon!

Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'

Ah, that first roll was just a beginning... now almost every time Mommy puts me on my back to play, I end up on my stomach. Now if I could only figure out how to get back on my back. I get frustrated when I am on my tummy for too long... hey! it's hard work!
My doctor's appointment was a big success. It was the first time I had seen Dr. Austen since I was one month old. (She was having her own baby boy :) She was impressed at how big I was.... 18 pounds, 6 ounces... 27 inches long. Everything was in good working order. I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO good about my shots too. I bet Mommy cries longer than I do when she gets her shots.
Dr. Austen is my new best friend because she told Mommy to ditch that yucky rice cereal and get something with some TASTE on the table. Ever since, I have been exposed to Mom's culinary delights. So far I am eating sweet potatoes and squash. I am getting better & better every day! I don't even make so much of a mess anymore. Last night I ate TWO cubes (Mommy is making her own baby food... and that's how she stores them... in ice cube trays) of sweet potatoes, and when I still wanted more after that, Mommy gave me some cereal. I even ate that! I get to have new tastes introduced every 3-5 days or so. I hear carrots might be next...
Mommy's been out to garage sales again... this time she bought a freezer to keep in the garage so she can keep my baby food in it (and whatever other bargains she finds at the grocery). I got some more toys too! Wahoo! I like this garage sale thing.
Next on the family agenda is BOSTON! We are flying there this Saturday to see Great Nana & Gramps and Aunt Joan & her family. Then we are heading over to New York to see GG, Nonna & Grandpa. ( They have a way of showing up everywhere I go!) I'll let you know how it goes in my next NEWS!
Talk to you again soon!

Boston & NYC

We left for Boston Saturday, June 15. It was my second time traveling in an airplane, so it was no big deal. I'm a seasoned traveler. Actually, I slept a lot on the plane. My GREAT Aunt Joan & cousin Daniel picked us up at the airport and brought us to Nana & Gramps's house. Don't tell Grandpa Clown (Bovitz), but we had some yummy apple pie to celebrate.
Sunday was Nana & Gramps's 57th anniversary. It was also Father's Day. We mostly just hung around the house and settled in that day. Nana cooked us a delicious roast chicken dinner.
Daddy wanted to see Walden Pond this visit to Boston so we went there on Monday. It was beautiful. There were some very nice woods & a fun lake (pond, I guess they call it, but it was pretty big). There were some people swimming there. We took a nice walk.
Tuesday was beach day. When Aunt Joan finished her morning meetings, she took us up to Salisbury Beach by New Hampshire. She told Mommy the water was warm, so Mommy set me down just in time to catch a small wave.... what a mistake! The water was FREEZING!!! I didn't like it a bit. We spent most of the time sunbathing or hanging out under the umbrella on the towel. I took a nice, comfy nap on the beach. Playing with the sand just wore me out.
Daddy, Mommy & I took the train to downtown Boston on Wednesday. That was pretty neat. We walked around the city and mostly hung out by Faniel Hall. There are lots of neat shops and places to eat there. Daddy got himself a shirt... and he didn't get me ANYTHING! Can you believe it? That night we went to dinner at my GREAT Aunt Dale's house. It was fun to meet her. She always sends me such fun things in the mail. She & I just smiled and talked to each other. I really like looking at my cousin Jill. She had nice blond hair. Scott & Uncle Skip were there too. We had a very nice visit.
On Thursday Nana & Gramps took us on a surprise drive. We ended up along Lynn Beach. We took another nice walk there. It was pretty. We drove up to Marblehead Beach too. It's a bit rockier up there, but really pretty. We saw a lighthouse. It was a nice drive. Then we had dinner at one of their favorite restaurants.
We headed to New York to GG's house on Friday. She and Nonna were there. Daddy navigated us on a LONG short cut, but we finally got there! We watched some videos of ME!
We took the train down to New York City to meet Grandpa on Saturday. He met us there and showed us the sights. We went and visited Ground Zero, and then we took the ferry to Staten Island and back. I saw the Statue of Liberty. He showed us the awesome view from where he works. It's a BIG city down there! We stayed at a nice hotel, too.
Sunday we went to Mass in St. Patrick's Cathedral. It's huge. We hung out around Times Square and Central Park that day. We went into this huge ToysRUs. It was SO neat. There was a Ferris wheel right inside the store!! WOW! We also spent a little time in the Museum of Natural History. Then it was time to catch the train back to GGs.
We headed back to Boston on Monday, but not before we hit the Outlet Mall on the way back. We got some good deals. I got a baseball hat & some shades.
On Tuesday it was time to pack our bags and head for home. We had a good time. I got to spend lots of really nice time with my Nana & Gramps and show them all my tricks. I enjoyed sitting around the table with them in the mornings and playing Peek-a-Boo or Wheee! They liked watching me in my Johnny Jumper. We had a very nice visit.
Now I'm gearing up for my Grammy & Grandpa's visit. I hear Justin is coming too. Then Nonna, Grandpa & GG are heading over as well. WOW! It's going to be a jam-packed house once again. (I love it!)
Talk to you again soon!
