March 5 - A Visit from Grammy & Grandpa
We celebrated my 3 month birthday with a visit from Grammy & Grandpa. They came up on Friday night. I was supposed to be sleeping, but I knew they were coming so I stayed awake in my crib. (I'm usually asleep by 9, just like my mom & dad.) I just about made it, too, but that sleep fairy is a tricky one, and she got me right before they arrived.
On Saturday, I got to hang out with them in the morning. Grammy just couldn't get enough of me. (I have that effect on people.) There was a lot of smiling going on that morning. Grandpa controlled himself, and he didn't take TOO many pictures.
That afternoon, we all went over to the Winters' house to celebrate my friend Delaney's one year birthday (and I thought I was old). That was fun. There were lots of kids there. A 4 month old girl and I smiled at each other... and Mom & Dad got a little glimpse of what's to come in the next month. Of course, Grammy held me almost the whole time. It's easy to tell that she's had lots of practice.
We had dinner, went to church, and then Grammy & Grandpa had to leave. Grandpa had to work early the next morning. It was a short, but good visit.
On Sunday, I went to get my 3 month pictures taken at J.C. Penney's. My mom (being the scheduler that she is) had it all figured out so that I would eat and be all ready to smile for our 3:20 appointment. Well, of course, when we got there, they were running late. That, and my aversion to smiling for any camera, led to a crazy picture session. Mommy & Daddy were dancing all over the studio and doing everything besides standing on their heads to get me to smile. It was a little frustrating for all of us. I gave them a couple of good ones though, so in the end, it came out OK. You'll be able to see the results in a few weeks.
Other than that, I've been working on my sitting up (with the help of my mom, dad, or boppy pillow). I don't like to be laying on my back for long... I like to be up and watching the world. I don't want to miss a thing. I've also been working on laughing & talking (baby talk, of course... I'm good, but not THAT good). I love to kick my legs a lot... I keep moving, just like Daddy. I play with my gym each day so I can work on getting things with my hands. I smile while I'm playing. My favorite thing to do these days is blow bubbles. I do it all the time.
All in all, life is pretty darn good these days!
Talk to you again soon!

March 11 - Here's the Heads Up!
Yep, that's right! This weekend I learned to really hold up my head when I'm on my tummy. (Want to see a pic?)
Mommy learned how to take still pics with our digital camera.... and I thought Grandpa Schenk & Aunt Carol were camera crazy! At least the dig cam doesn't have a flash. My eyes are safe, but... I tell you, my jaw hurts from smiling so much.
This was a pretty quiet weekend. We just relaxed at home. Not much to report.... except that I am getting bigger and stronger by the day.
Talk to you again soon!

A Trick A Day
Monday, March 18, 2002 Edition
I had a very eventful week last week. First, I got to visit my Aunt Katie for lunch in Richmond on Tuesday. That was a lot of fun... once I woke myself up to see her.
I seemed to learn something new each day. It was so fun that I laughed and laughed about it.
One day I was supposed to be up napping when Mommy heard some noises on the monitor. She came up to investigate, and there I was, just laughing and giggling and talking to my mobile. Luckily, she got the video camera... and this time, I didn't really see her, so I kept it up, and she got some good footage! It was so funny that soon I had my mommy laughing and giggling!
I am quite a good talker. Once I've got started, I really haven't stopped. Daddy loves to coo at me, and I coo right back at him. Lots of smiles are involved too.
Mom was getting a little too complacent about how well diaper changes were going. She even bragged to Aunt Jody (our friend who lives about a mile away & spends lot of time with us) how I hadn't had any accidents in awhile so....
The other day I figured out how to push so hard that my poopy shoots right out my diaper and up my back. Boy, is that fun! Now, the reason I do that is... I LOVE MY BATH! If I get dirty enough, then Mommy has to bathe me. Sometimes I make it really good by peeing as she is spending all her time trying to clean up the poop. That really gets her going and definitely ensures a bath. One day I even went through four different outfits and had TWO baths!
I get to bathe in the big tub now (just me & the tub... nothing else). It is so fun. I kick my legs and move my arms all around. I'm trying to learn how to get the water out of the tub... the bigger mess the better! I laugh and laugh in my bath. I'm learning to swim. My best stroke is my backstroke (just like Mommy).
I have been working hard, and those hands are finally starting to do what I tell them. I can grasp an object in both my hands and bring it up to my mouth. This is great because I love to suck toys, my fingers, my pacy... whatever . I can also reach out (with lots of work) and grasp something in my hand.
Nonna, Grandpa & GG came to visit this weekend. We got to celebrate Grandpa's birthday with him. My Nonna helped me practice my grasping. GG loved to watch me in my bath. We had a good weekend.
They wore me out, though. On Sunday I took an enormous nap. Then to top it off, Sunday night I went to bed at 9 like usual... and I didn't wake up until 7:15 the next morning. WOW! I got HUGE smiles from Mommy & Daddy for that.
There's no telling what I'll be up to this week. Tune in to find out!
Talk to you again soon!

Hi Ho, Hi Ho! It's Off to Work I Go
Monday, March 25, 2002 Edition
Yesterday, I got to go into work with my daddy. We spent the day at his office. I helped him, Bev (who works with Daddy), and Mommy work on computers. It was fun, but tiring. I let Mommy & Daddy know that I wasn't pleased that they were working me so hard by being very mad that night. (There are laws about child labor, you know.) I am training them well.
Otherwise, life is good! I am working on my rolling over and sitting up. I've rolled over from my tummy to back twice now, but I'll admit that I need a little help from Mommy to get me going (she gets my arm way under me to get me started). I can sit up by myself for a few seconds at a time. (Let me tell you, a few seconds is a LONG time in my lifetime!) There are two pictures of me sitting on my photos page.
I am "talking" a mile a minute. One could say, I love to hear myself talk. It makes me laugh. Daddy and Mommy love it when I talk to them, too.
This weekend Mommy, Daddy, and I bought a new car seat for me. It's cool! I was just getting TOO big for my last one. I still have to face the back of the car, but I can see much better out the window. This helps me to stay awake a little longer in the car.
Today we went to J.C. Penneys to pick up my 3 month old pictures. (Yes, they took almost a month to "develop" so now I'm almost four months!) They, of course, are VERY cute. While I was there, Mommy & I walked a bit through the mall... and GUESS WHAT... I got to sit on the Easter Bunny's lap. Am I a big boy, or what?! He said no chocolate eggs for me this year... but maybe Mommy will get mine.
I am looking forward to heading down to Evansville this weekend to see my Grammy & Grandpa and the rest of the family and to celebrate Easter. Then, next week Nonna & GG are coming to visit during their Spring Break. Relatives, galore!
A very joyous Holy Week to you all! Happy Easter!
Talk to you again soon!
