May 2006 Article
Happy Spring everyone! We have certainly had an interesting one with some wild weather... anywhere from 50 degrees to 90 degrees... sometimes almost in the same week! It has been the year of hail damage with roofing signs in almost every yard (except ours because we got our new roof last year... bad timing :)
The first weekend of May, we saw Grandpa Bovitz run the mini-marathon on Saturday & then went to a Pettyjohn (Grammy's side) family picnic at SpringMill Park on Sunday. They have a fun playground on which the boys enjoyed playing... and then we went up to an old-fashioned village & saw the big mill cut wood and grind corn. It was really neat.
The second weekend, I went on a marathon garage saling day with Mommy & Jody. We had lots of fun & found lots of treasures... including a desk for Noah & Adam (and I'm sure eventually for me too!) that Jody is going to refinish. The next day was Mother's Day, but as always, Mommy got more of a mother's weekend than just one little ol' day :) We got to have dinner at the Olive Garden on Saturday & at O'Charley's on Sunday.... see! she gets plain old SPOILED :) Noah was pretty happy too as he is really into eating out at restaurants these days.
Daddy has been taking several extra days off this month to make up for the days he doesn't take off for the rest of the year... so it has been nice to have him around the house more. He's been working on some mulching projects around the house & yard barn and is making the outside look very nice. He made a new stepping stone walk to get from the house to the yard barn without getting so muddy. Of course, Noah & Adam "helped".
We went on a tour of our local fire station with our church playgroup. That was neat. The boys got to sit in a fire truck & we saw the big ladder go way up into the sky. We also saw a fireman go down the pole & get his fire gear on too. That weekend Mommy & Jody had a garage sale... so they could get some more room in the house (and money :) for the fun things they find at garage sales!
I turned 6 months old. I was 26 1/2 inches and almost 17 pounds at the doctor. I have started eating solids... and I much prefer vegetables to that bland rice cereal they were trying to feed me. I have had sweet potatoes, green beans, and squash. I didn't like green beans very much... but the others are yummy. I hear Mommy might try peas next.
I am also getting better at sitting up... but I much prefer to MOVE! Mommy is placing bets on whether I master sitting or start to crawl first.
Noah is still writing lots & learning to read. He also likes to draw pictures of people... especially smiley faces. Adam breaks out in song most days & knows the lyrics to lots of them... most often the ABC song.
We finished the month by heading down to Evansville for Memorial Day weekend. We got to spend lots of time with Justin & Isabelle this weekend. That was fun. On Sunday we went downtown to the train museum. Indoors they had a model train set with a replica of Evansville in the 1940s. Outside they had a real train that you could board & look around inside. On Monday, we went to Holiday World in what is quickly becoming a Schenk tradition. It was LOTS of fun - although VERY hot - and I am looking forward to next year when I will be able to ride some of the rides!
